Will my Lowrance HDS 5 plotter automatically communicate with my lvr 880 vhf radio once connected with wires?
I was wondering once i have connected my plotter and radio together with the nmea leads will they automatically communicate with each other to allow dsc and current position to work? or do you have to configure settings on each device?
I believe both devices use NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000
and the plotter can work upto 38,400 baud whatever that is?

You can get detailed instructions and even technical help on line........but a friend followed all of the instructions, but it didn't work until he went into the menu of the chart plotter and turned on (enabled) the output to the radio. Also there is a registration part so that the USCG knows who you are if you send the dss signal. you can also do that online.
