why does all the line on my bait casting reel go everywhere when i cast?
what exactly do you mean by "everywhere"? some goes here and some goes there? and a little bit of it goes way over there?
or does it just ball up on the spool in knots and loops?
THAT my friend, is what we in the business call a "professional overrun". ordinary folks call it a backlash, bird's nest and some other things Yahoo won't let me print here. these are prevented or alleviated by the judicious use of a well trained thumb and/or the use of the various anti-backlash devices on the reel. also, by not over filling or under filling the reel or the use of either too heavy or too light of line. some people, of which l am one, also have problems with braids. particularly the ones of just a couple of years ago.
